Drag brake - when stop the car, whether the motor is in a "free" state or a "brake" state, this is especially important for a crawler parked on a slope. Every player hopes that when they release throttle trigger, the crawler could be lying on slip steadily. But not every motor-ESC component has the power and algorithm to do it.
Posture - When passing through undulating road conditions at low speed, the crawler has a weighty feeling like a real car with a shaking head. When passing through small undulating roads quickly, the body does not move, the wheels quickly follow the ground to jump, shock absorber has just the right telescopic fit. This requires shock absorber proper adjust, the perfect balance between elasticity, damping and preload. Besides, the quality for the springs and the control of the height of the center of gravity will also affect the crawler performance.
Play in the water, dive - drive the car directly into the water to play, it may be directly soaked deep, not over the roof of the car, like diving
Servo protection-release force design, in order to prevent the car from being directly damaged by excessive force when the front wheel is hit. It is common to make the steering arm larger and add a spring structure for buffering. For Yikong crawler, it adds a similar shock absorber buffer on steering link.
Portal Axle
Portal axles use a series of gears and a housing mounted on the axle ends or control arms next to the wheel to increase ground clearance under the axle. That raises the centerline of the axle and axle tubes or control arms, raises the differential relative to the wheel mounting surface, and pushes the wheels down relative to the differential and axle tubes or control arms.
Portal axles can be used on solid axle suspensions and on independent suspensions with both gaining ground clearance and axle strength.
Locking differential
Without the differential, the car or the axles would try to force the car to go straight because both tires (per axle) would be turning at the exact same speed.
Due to the inconsistent speed of the inner and outer wheels when turning, in order to reduce wheel wear and turning radius, the differential forces two wheels to freely distribute the speed and power as required. That's why we pick up the car, turn one wheel with our hand, and the other side flips. The differential function cannot be taken into account in the state of climbing and free running on the flat road, so a differential can be actively controlled. It can provide a controllable locking differential function, which is an important play point for crawlers.
Sway bar - While the shock absorber undulates the ground and provides soft buffering, because it is too soft, when the car body turns a sharp corner or rolls on a slope, the weight will be pressed to the outer tires, easy to roll over. If the spring support force is simply stiffened, the buffering effect will be lost. Therefore, there is a U-shaped near-rigid link connecting the left and right wheels. Many crawler do not build with this.
Thrust rod - a rod that prevents the axle from being pushed laterally left and right. Note that the steering link connected to the steering arm is not the same thing. Since it is also necessary to take into account the stroke of the upper and lower buffers, so take a closer look at this thrust rod. When pressing down, the left and right positions of the wheels and the body change, not straight up and down.
Negative pressure shock absorber - High-end shock absorber has a small shock shaft. This small barrel has a piston compartment to separate the shock oil and gas. The air pressure of the gas can be adjusted through the cover at the end cap. Even it can be adjusted to negative pressure, and when there is no spring, the metal rod of the shock absorber can be sucked back a little.
